Kitalagama anicut needs repairs

The irrigation anicut at the Kitalagama, Thihagoda is in a state of disrepair. According to motorists the stretch of the Thihagoda-Welletota high way on this anicut is so narrow that the motorists find it difficult to drive long and heavy vehicles through this point across the Kiramba Oya, a tributary of the Nilwala river. According to farmer organizations this anicut provide water for Pethara, Mihitigoda, Dalugoda, Kitalagama East and Thihagoda.

During dry seasons the water level would drop, the cultivators said. The hairpin- bend off this place has also become a death trap and the hand rails of this anicut are broken down. The residents and motorists urge the SPC Road Development Authority to construct a permanent bridge at this point of the road for the convenience and safety of motorists and users of this highway.
