Mosquito menace in Sainthamaruthu

The Sainthamaruthu Divisional Secretariat in the Ampara district has
appealed to hoteliers and households in the area to help eliminate
mosquito breeding places in their areas. DS of Sainthamaruthu, A.L.M.
Saleem and health officers made surprise checks on the surroundings of
some hotels and found them to be ideal for mosquito breeding.
Pallepola town to be modernised

The Urban Development Authority has taken steps to develop Pallepola
town, Matale under the government's sub town development plan.
Pallepola town has not been developed properly. At present, a few
irregular buildings have been built.
A new trade complex, a bus stand, public toilets, a minor export crop
collection centre and other essential facilities will be provided.
Workshop on palliative care for Alzheimer patients
The Lanka Alzheimer's Foundation will conduct a workshop with Sharon
Scott and Joao Marcal-Grilo on 'Palliative Care' on February 24 from
1.00 pm to 4.00 pm.
Scott is a Palliative Nurse Consultant, trained at the Lothian School
of Nursing and Midwife, Edinburgh and Marcal-Grilo is a Dementia
Specialist Nurse trained at Kings College, London.
Those wishing to attend should apply before 4.00 pm on February 21.
Registration is free - a donation box will be available for participants
who wish to make a donation. Alzheimer's disease is on the rise in Sri
Lanka with around 200,000 patients needing care.
Narthana Sangamam today
Narthana Nirnaya will present Narthana Sangamam under the patronage
of "Natyakalaimani" Srimathy Thayananthy Vimalachandiran today at 6 p.m.
at Ramakrishna Mission Hall, Ramakrishna Road, Colombo 6. The chief
guest will be Mrs. M. Jeevarani Punitha, Assistant Commissioner,
Department of Examinations, Battaramulla while Raju Sivaraman, Chartered
Architect and acting Chairman and Director, Bank of Ceylon and Srimathy
M. Vicknarajah, Aesthetic Subject Co-ordinator, Department of Education,
Northern Province will be the guests of honour. |
