Peiris addressed Ambassadors and High Commissioners
accredited to Sri Lanka in Kandy on the eve of the 66th
Independence anniversary, briefing them on current
developments in the country, and the government's views on
future progress.
Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic
Resources Dr. Rajitha Senaratne met the Minister of
Agriculture and Food Processing of India Sharad Pawar in New
Delhi recently to discuss the mutual release of fishermen
presently under the custody of both countries. At the
conclusion of successful discussion for the release of
fishermen Ministers exchanged token of gifts.
The Annual Volleyball tournament
conducted by the Awissawella Chandra Sports Club was held on
the 1, 2 and 4 of February for the 33rd consecutive year. A
large number of sports clubs in the island took part in the
tournament. Here the captain of the Sri Lanka Army A-team
Buddhika Marasinghe who became champions receives the
challenge trophy form Seethawaka UC Chairman Premalal Pinto.
U.C. Member U.H.M. Ubesinghe and the sponsor of the
tournament Dehiowita Pradeshiya Sabha member Aruna Shantha
Nilwala were also present.
