People's Leasing bags two Islamic banking awards

People's Leasing and Finance PLC (PLC) clinched Silver and Bronze awards at the SLIBFI (Sri Lanka Islamic Banking and Financial Industry) awards ceremony at the Galadari recently.

SLIBFI awards honours the best performers in the Islamic Banking and Financial fraternity in Sri Lanka, under six categories.

PLC secured the Bronze in the 'Best Islamic Finance Entity of the Year' category, while PLC's Operations Executive M. Hikam Hussain bagged the Silver in the 'Rising Islamic Finance Personality of the Year' category.

DGM, Business Development and Marketing, PLC, Rohan Tennakoon said, "We are indeed honoured to have received these two accolades and it is of significance to us as this is the very first occasion that our 'Al-Safa' Islamic Finance Unit applied for the SLIBFI awards."

"We launched our Al-Safa Islamic Finance Unit in 2005 and all our activities in the Al-Safa Unit are carried out strictly according to Sharia'h principles under the guidance of the Sharia'h Supervisory Board. These activities have shown significant progress," he said.

"We have seven dedicated branches operating under the Al-Safa Unit at present and in addition, Islamic financial services can also be obtained from any of our other branches in the country," Tennakoon said.

He said that PLC will set up an islandwide Al-Safa services network, and provide a broader range of financial facilities in line with global standards in Islamic finance.

Founded in 1995, as a subsidiary of the People's Bank, PLC offers customers an array of financial solutions including, leasing, hire purchase, fixed deposits, saving accounts, loan facilities, vehicle imports and Islamic financial services.
