Sahana Camp 2014 - Focus on ICT
Sahana Camp 2014 was organised as a part of the Indian Ocean Tsunami
10th Anniversary (IOTX) Convention which commemorated the relief work by
various parties following the devastating December 2004 tsunami.
The IOTX events were designed to cut across several disciplines such
as disaster communication system engineering, policy and research.
They focused on how Information Communication Technology can
strengthen emergency preparedness and response and improve the
resilience of communities, business continuity and disaster recovery of
organisations.
Sahana Camp is a participatory workshop involving the use and
understanding of the Sahana Disaster Management Information System and
brought together people and organisations working in Information
Communication Technology for Disaster Management.
The event provided an opportunity for Chief Technical Officers and
Chief Information Officers of Government, Non-Governmental Organisations
and private sector industries to aquaint with the real-world Sahana
disaster management solutions, receive hands-on experience using Sahana
software tools with managing information and analysing data for decision
support, and assess how Sahana could be used in their organisations.
The Sahana Disaster Management Software is sentimental to IOTX. The
Sahana Community and the community-developed Sahana Software evolved
from a compassionate effort of the Sri Lankan Free and Open Source
Software community. Since then, Sahana Software has served over two
dozen major disasters around the globe. |
