SLMA set for national health walk and run

The Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA), the oldest medical
Association in Asia and Australasia will mark its 127th Anniversary
Medical Congress with a national health walk and run on July 13 at the
BMICH.
"The purpose of this event at the front lawn of the BMICH, is to
promote heathy lifestyles, through sports and other activities.",
Program Coordinator, Dr Ruchira Sanjaya told the Sunday Observer."
Emphasis will be on recreational activities rather than competitive
sports.Participants of any age could take part in the event which will
be from 6.am to 10.30 a.m.
In addition to the health walk and run, there will also be free
medical examinations for all participants where basic tests will be
carried out to check pressure, blood sugar, vision, height and weight.
Yoga exercises will also be demonstrated by physiotherapists from the
Faculty of Medicine, Colombo.
He said that no amount of medications could help people unless they
change their food habits and lifestyles.
"Leading active lives with plenty of exercises, meditation and
healthy diets, will reduce the stress of modern life and control the
spread of non communicable diseases (NCDs) now on the rise in Sri
Lanka", he said. |
