Sharp increase in wasp attacks

by P. Rajaratnam in Nuwara Eliya

There is an alarming increase in hornet-biting incidents in the plantation sector due to adverse weather conditions, resulting both men and women workers becoming victims and hospitalised. Parliamentarian and President of the Upcountry Workers' Front, Velusamy Radhakrishnan has written to all managers and superintendents calling on them to maintain their tea fields and other areas clean and tidy.

Radhakrishnan MP also pointed out the fact that in the past the estates grew shady trees and now since they have been brought down, leaving the hornets and wasps without a proper place to home nests and setting on tea bushes for their nests.
