Postal Services Minister Jeevan Kumaranatunga said that the Galle road from Ratmalana to Moratuwa is being developed with funds from the World Bank. Minister Kumaranatunga said so at a meeting at Moratuwa Divisional Secretariat Office. Moratuwa Urban Councilor Saman Lal Fernando, Moratuwa Divisional Secretary K.C. Niroshan, Western Provincial Council Member Moris Wijeratne were also present.

Minister Kumaranatunga said that vehicles are parked causing inconvenience to pedestrians and the vehicle movement. This practice has created severe traffic congestion. With the development of Ratmalana Moratuwa road suitable places for vehicle parking has been identified. Vehicles can be parked at permitted places only, the Minister said.

The Minister expressed confidence that after the development of the road traffic congestion along this road can be reduced. The drainage system which was in dilapidated condition obstructing waste water draining has also been developed, Minister Kumaranatunga said. Steps have been planned to set up safety fence in both sides of road. In line with the road development, a grass planting program along the developed road will be implemented. Pedestrian crossings will also be marked, setting up traffic lights at required places. This measure has been taken to protect the people from accidents, the Minister said.
