Galle Road from Ratmalana to Moratuwa developed

Postal Services Minister Jeevan Kumaranatunga said that the Galle
road from Ratmalana to Moratuwa is being developed with funds from the
World Bank. Minister Kumaranatunga said so at a meeting at Moratuwa
Divisional Secretariat Office. Moratuwa Urban Councilor Saman Lal
Fernando, Moratuwa Divisional Secretary K.C. Niroshan, Western
Provincial Council Member Moris Wijeratne were also present.
Minister Kumaranatunga said that vehicles are parked causing
inconvenience to pedestrians and the vehicle movement. This practice has
created severe traffic congestion. With the development of Ratmalana
Moratuwa road suitable places for vehicle parking has been identified.
Vehicles can be parked at permitted places only, the Minister said.
The Minister expressed confidence that after the development of the
road traffic congestion along this road can be reduced. The drainage
system which was in dilapidated condition obstructing waste water
draining has also been developed, Minister Kumaranatunga said. Steps
have been planned to set up safety fence in both sides of road. In line
with the road development, a grass planting program along the developed
road will be implemented. Pedestrian crossings will also be marked,
setting up traffic lights at required places. This measure has been
taken to protect the people from accidents, the Minister said. |
