Royal in smashing 38-15 win over Science
Royal College College beat Science College Mount Lavinia by 38 points
(four goals, two tries) to 15 (one goal, one try, one penalty) in their
Singer League Segment ‘A’ match played at the Science College Grounds
Mount Lavinia yesterday after leading 17-8 at the ‘breather’.
Royal opened scoring early in the game rolling maul through an
unconverted try by hooker Supun Warnakulasuriya. Three minutes later,
skipper Nimshan Jayawardene scored over second phase move and added the
extra points himself. Royal 12-0.
Science College reduced the deficit when scrum half Prasad Silva made
a break and scored by the corner flag scored an unconverted try and
reduced the deficit further when fullback Ruwin Fernando put over a
25-metre penalty. Royal 12-8.
Five minuts before half time, Royal centre Akash Iddawela scored an
unconverted try to make it 17-8. Then soon after half time, Royal winger
Daniel Gunasekeram scored by the corner flag and Nimshan Jayawardene
made a fine conversion. 24-8.
Science College reduced the deficit through a try by Madushan Ayesh
Kumar under the posts. Prince Chamara converted. Royal 24-15. Five
minutes later, skipper Nimshan Jayawardene, who had a fine game, scored
mid-right and converted it himself. Royal 31-15.
Five minutes before the final whistle, Royal hooker Supun
Warnakulasuriya scored by the corner flag. Nimshan Jayawardene made a
brilliant conversion for Royal to run out winners by 38-15.
