The greedy boy

Once upon a time there lived twin brothers called Sam and Tom. They were identical twins where even the mother of the twin boys found it hard to differentiate between the two when they were tiny. However, they were like two poles when it came to everything other than their appearance. They never agreed on anything and did not share even a single trait!

Sam had no friends, whereas for Tom the world is friendship. Sam loved sweets and Tom loved to eat spicy food. Sam was mommy's pet and Tom was daddy's pet. While Sam was generous, Tom was greedy! As they grew up, the father of the twin boys wanted to share his fortune equally. However, Tom did not agree and he argued that whoever was more intelligent and strong, should get the bigger share.

Sam agreed. Their father decided to organise a competition for the two. He ordered the two sons to walk as long as they could and that and they should return home before sunset. "Whoever covers the longer distance and returns home before sunset will get the bigger share of the wealth" he said. He also said the amount of wealth will be proportionate to the distance they covered.

Both began the walk. It was a long way on a sunny day. Sam walked slowly and steadily, while Tom wanted to win over Sam started to run.

The distance they covered until mid-noon was equal to the distance they would reach home before sunset. It was mid-noon and Sam decided to return as he could reach home on time.

However, Tom, yearning for more wealth, did not turn back home even after mid-noon. He walked twice the distance that Sam had covered and decided to return as evening fell. He returned home as the sun turned orange in the evening. Unfortunately, he could not even make half the distance back home.

He lost the race as his greediness took the better of him.
