Sri Lanka trounce Hong Kong 7-0 in women’s hockey in Singapore

SRI LANKA WIN: Sri Lanka women’s hockey team scored their best win of
the tour when they trounced Hong Kong 7-0 in their final match of the
women world ranking Hockey Championship 2014 (Asian Region) Match played
in Singapore on Friday. At half-time, Sri Lanka women ‘Stickers’ led
4-0. This was Sri Lanka’s second win of the tour, having earlier beaten
Myanmar 4-0.
Sri Lanka women team finished fifth in a tournament which featured 7
teams.
On top was Malaysia, followed by Kazakhstan, Thailand, Singapore, Sri
Lanka, Hong Kong and Myanmar.
Sri Lanka’s win against Hong Kong was spearheaded by Centre half
Chathurika Wijesuriya from Sri Lanka Navy who slammed 3 goals and
skipper and centre forward Madhushani Jayanetti too, came up with a
similar performance to sound the board thrice in the second half. The
seventh goal was scored by right extreme Chathurika Premasiri.
The Sri Lanka team is expected to return over the weekend.
