Northern Gladiators and North Central Typhoons steal the limelight

Northern Gladiators and North Central Typhoons finished on top at the end of first day's play of the Carlton Super Rugby Sevens which began at St Anne's College grounds, Kurunegala yesterday.

Fazil Marija, Mithun Hapugoda, Damien Ratwatte, Vishwamithra Jayasinghe, Mohammed Jabbar played a key role in the success of Northern Gladiators.

Anuruddha Vilvara, Roshan Weeraratne, Sandun Herath, Sayuru Anthony were the key players for North Central Typhoons.

Northern Gladiators 12 points and North Central Typhoons also 12 points. Table of points of pool 'A' Northern Gladiators 12, Western Warriors 8, Southern Sharks 8, Sabaragamuwa Stallions 6, Central Kings 6. Pool 'B' North Central Typoons 12, North Western Blacks 9, Jaffna Challengers 8, Eastern Eagles 7, Uva Vipers 4.

Northern Gladiators beat Sabaragamuwa Stallions 24-5. Central Kings beat Western Warriors 33- 0, North Western Blacks beat Uva Vipers 12-0. Jaffna Challengers beat Eastern Eagles 21-12. Northern Gladiators beat Southern Sharks 22-7. Sabaragamuwa Stallions beat Central Kings 21- 14, North Central Typhoons beat North Western Black 24-14, Eastern Eagles beat Uva Vipers 21-7, Western Warriors beat Southern Sharks 24-5, Northern Gladiators beat Central Kings 19-14, North Central Typhoons beat Jaffna Challengers 31-10, Eastern Eagle drew North Western Black 19-all, Western Warriors beat Sabaragamuwa Stallions 21-14, Southern Sharks beat Central Kings 30-14, Jaffna Challengers beat Uva Vipers 19-5, North Central Typhoons beat Eastern Eagle 36-0, Northern Gladiators beat Western Warriors 28-19, Southern Sharks beat Sabaragamuwa Stallions 17-12, North Western Black beat Jaffna Challengers 29-7, North Central Typhoons beat Uva Vipers 29-15.

The tournament was organized Carlton Sports Club in collaboration with Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union.

Matches will be resumed today at 10am.
