Sri Lanka Scrabble Festival from August 22 to 31
The Sri Lanka Scrabble League (SLSL) is the sole authority for
Scrabble in Sri Lanka, based at the Women's International Club - Colombo
7 (WIC).
It is a non-profit making organisation and a full member of the World
English-language Scrabble Players' Association (WESPA). SLSL was
incorporated in 1989 and is celebrating its 25th silver jubilee this
year. In celebration of this milestone, SLSL is hosting the Colombo
Scrabble Festival 2014 from 22nd to 31st August 2014. The Colombo
Scrabble Festival will be held at the Bandaranaike Memorial
International Conference Hall (BMICH), Colombo 7. It is the first time
in the history of Sri Lankan scrabble that such an event is scheduled to
take place.
The festival commences with the 6th Sri Lanka International Open
Scrabble Championship from 22nd to 24th August.
The current world champion, Nigel Richards, has confirmed his
participation and the championship is expected to attract at least 70
internationally rated scrabble players, out of which at least 15 players
will be from Sri Lanka.
The current Sri Lankan champion Lakshan Wanniarachchi is also
expected to take part.
