Soccer at St. Peter's with a bang
St. Peter's have decided to take to the game of football with all
seriousness and it was viewed as a football fairytale when the minnows
upset more than one giant in schools football, on their way to the
fourth KotmaleChox Under 19 Championship 2014, organized by the Football
Federation of Sri Lanka.
St. Peter's eventually banished their five year hoodoo with St.
Joseph's, by beating them to 1-nil, at their first encounter played at
the CR & FC grounds. The Peterites dominated play most of the time and
gave no chances to the opposition to score.
Even though they missed out on a few opportunities, the match ended
up with 1 goal to nil in favour of St. Peter's.
In the second match played early this month, it was fascinating to
see the Peterites putting the much fancied Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa to
discomfort.
Though the match ended in a draw, 2 goals apiece, the Peterites could
have bagged a win in this case as well, with their play leading the game
at every stage.
The 3rd match in the Chox calendar for the Peterites were, Lyceum
International, which was played on the 20th of June.
St. Peter's sent Lyceum packing with a rousing 8-0 victory. With this
win the Peterites have become one of the unbeaten teams in the
tournament. They will be playing their fourth and final match of their
group early next month and will face Holy Cross Kalutara, another strong
contender.
