The game of cricket is very popular in Kandy and the schoolgirls have
taken to the game in a big way and they have done as well as the boys.
Mahamaya is a girls school well renowned for many sports. The school
has taken to cricket in a big way and there is a girl in grade 13 of
Mahamaya - Dhanushika Mahandiram who is turning out to be a good
allround cricketer.
Dhanushika is a allround cricketer - a right-arm medium - pace bowler
and a right-hand middle-order batswoman. Dhanushika Muhandiram plays
both types of cricket and now concentrates on leather ball.
From 2009 to 2011 she represented Mahamaya girls school to win the
Kandy District Cricket Tournament.
She was selected to the Sri Lanka Junior Pool when she participated
in the All-Island Leather Ball Cricket Tournament held at Maharagama in
2011. In 2012 she captained both leather ball and softball cricket teams
of the school, after having played for 8 years.
Dhanushika is a very active girl and besides her interest in cricket,
she has been in the school cadet platoon for the last 3 years and she
received the medal for being the Best Sergeant in 2014 at the annual
Camps held at Rantambe.
Dhanushika is thankful to the Principal of Mahamaya Indo Withanachchi
and other members of the staff for helping her with her sporting
activities including cadeting to be a very active girl. |
