The people in Rathupaswala and in a few adjoining villages gathered together in the month of July 2013 to launch a peaceful protest against the authorities for turning the blind eye to their burning problem relating to pollution of water in the area.

Ranil steers Maithri's victory

The main Opposition headed by Ranil Wickremesinghe stood firm against the 18th Amendment as he was fully aware that the country would be heading for a tyrannical State with the enactment of 18th Amendment. Faithful flock to receive Pope's blessings

Suchira Liyanaarachchi, her 7-year-old daughter and her mother were among the first to arrive at the Galle Face Green hoping to have a glimpse of the Pope Francis and be blessed by his touch. Travelling from Ja-Ela, she had arrived at Galle Face on Monday and managed to enter the premises on Tuesday at 3.00 pm.
