Lee Kuan Yew bids goodbye
Foreign leaders and diplomats will gather in Singapore today (Mar 29)
to attend the state funeral of Lee Kuan Yew, the country's founding
father.
King of Malaysia Abdul Halim, Indonesian President Joko
Widodo,Myanmar's President Thein Sein, Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha
and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo
Abe, South Korean President Park Guen-Hye, Australian Prime Minister
Tony Abbott and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the
funeral.
The US will be represented by former President Bill Clinton and
former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, a close friend of Lee. The
United Kingdom will be represented by First Secretary of State William
Hague.
Sunday's public ceremony will be preceded by the State Funeral
Procession from Parliament House to the University Cultural Center (UCC),
where the funeral service for Singapore's first Prime Minister will be
held from 2 pm to 5.15 pm. |
