‘War heroes’ event by pro-Mahinda faction

Former Minister and rebel UNPer Bandula Gunewardena said the War Heroes Day would be commemorated this year at the Vihara Maha Devi Park in Colombo under the patronage of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. It is convened by the “Motherland Organisation” which was formed recently with the active participation of politicians, professionals, artistes and intellectuals of all communities irrespective of differences.

"Motherland Organisation" decided to declare the week beginning May 8 as a Week of Commemoration of War Heroes and there will be many religious programs in temples, churches, mosques and kovils all over the country, the Minister said.

The Minister added that the hard won peace is now being threatened by the Tamil diaspora and the country is gradually becoming internationalised which is detrimental to our proud nation in the long run.

Activists of the Motherland Organisation, parliamentarian Praba Ganeshan, artistes Rohana Weerasinghe, Jackson Anthony, Teledrama actress Oshadi Hewamaddhuma and President, Tower Hall Foundation Douglas Siriwardene also addressed the Press Conference conducted at the Abayaramaya Temple yesterday and all of them called upon everybody in their respective fields to assemble at the Vihara Maha Devi Park to light a lamp to honour the war Heroes.
