Indrani Iriyagolle passes away

Indrani Iriyagolle, one of Sri Lanka's pioneering female social activist, former Chairperson of National Committee of Women, and founder President of Kantha Abhivurdhi Sanvidanaya (Women's Welfare and Development Foundation), passed away yesterday morning, following a brief illness. She was 82.

Wife of late diplomat and presidential advisor Gamini Iriyagolla, she was a well-known figure in Sri Lanka for rehabilitation, welfare and humanitarian work and was the Vice President of the Prisoners Welfare Association.

The funeral will take place at the Borella Cemetery at 5.00 p.m. today.
