Annual Lions District Convention on May 23, 24.

The International Lions Club 306 A2 District annual convention will be held on May 23 and 24. The chief quests will be the Past International Governor Lion Sunil Watawala and the Past International Governor Lion Mahendra Amarasooriya and 306 A 2 D District Governor Lion Arjuna Abeyshinghe.

The annual business session will be held on May 23 at the BMICH premises. The ceremonial session will be held on May 24 at Lake Side conference hall, Attidiya. (SK)


Public lecture: '19 A and the Way Forward'

Dr. Rohan Edrisinha, Visiting Lecturer, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, and the Constitutional Advisor, UNDP Nepal from 2011 to 2014, will deliver a lecture on "Protecting the Sovereignty of the People in Constitution Making: The 19th Amendment and the Way Forward" at the Organization of Professional Associations Auditorium, Prof. Stanley Wijesundera Mawatha, off Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7, Monday May 18 at 5.30 p.m.

The lecture is organised by the British Scholars' Association of Sri Lanka and is open to the public.


Prof. Stanley Wijesundera Memorial Lecture

The annual Prof. Stanley Wijesundera memorial lecture titled 'From the mitochondrial eve to contemporary Sri Lankan women: A glimpse into the genetic landscape' will be delivered by Senior Professor of Molecular Life Science, Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (IBMBB) of the University of Colombo Prof. Kamani Tennakoon on May 21 at 9 a.m. at the IBMBB.

The lecture will be the highlight of the Seventh Annual Scientific Sessions of the Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, University of Colombo.


Intl. Buddhist Confab in Jaffna

An International Buddhist Conference will be convened in Jaffna this week to promote religious harmony.

Seventy Hindu devotees from India will attend the first ever event of its kind, in addition to 300 Buddhists.


Tug of War tourney in Matara

The Tug of War Federation of Sri Lanka with the Tug of War Club, Matara will hold the All-Ceylon inter-club tug of war tournament on June 6 at the Uyanwatte Grounds, Matara.

The winners will be awarded cash prizes, trophies and certificates. The event is coordinated by Christy: 0717397830/0777559478 and Wickremasinghe: 0715999332.

Board and lodging will be provided to the teams from North and the East.
