LTTE death remembrances banned

All events to commemorate the LTTE war dead are unlawful, the Police authorities say. Police media spokesman SSP Ruwan Gunasekara told the 'Sunday Observer' that consequent to the Mullaitivu Magistrate's banning of Tamil National People's Front (TNPF) leader Gajenrakumar Ponnamblam's scheduled 'Tamil Genocide Remembrance' in Mullivaikkal tomorrow, all events to commemorate LTTE deaths in war would become unlawful.

The Mullaitivu police obtained court order banning Gajendrakumar's scheduled event at Mullivaikkalm on the ground that another group was to hold another event at the same venue and it will lead to clashes and breach of peace, according to reports. The Magistrate has banned the event for four days from May 18, Gunasekara said, pointing out that the LTTE is a banned organisation and commemorating the death of its members in war is unlawful.
