The company has introduced a new brand of rice Akshata, which caters
to fast-growing health-conscious consumers who wish to change their
eating habits. The growing demand for this product has spearheaded the
construction of a 50-ton rice mill. Construction work is due to be
completed before the end of the year.
The brand is now available at leading supermarkets islandwide with
traditional rice varieties such as Pachcha-Perumal, Suwandel and
Kuruluthuda in convenient packs of 800 grams.
According to Roshan Perera, Akshata will soon be available in
Australia, capitalising on the need for gluten-free, low GI staple food
diet already making waves in the West. “The rice mill will revolutionise
the local flour industry, ending the monopoly of wheat flour, which will
in turn boost the economy due to reduced imports,” he said.
Akshata was created to be in line with the mainstream brands that
offer gluten-free options with the advantage of being traditional and
wholesome.
Thirty percent of Sri Lankans look for wholesome gluten-free and low
GI rice with a light texture. Akshata offers a variety of rice that has
been bequeathed from the time of our kings.
The brand’s pay-off line, ‘Unravel the mystique of royalty’ pays
tribute to this brand of rice which is a rich inheritance from Sri
Lanka’s glorious past. |
