Sri Sathya Sai Home for Elders in Meegoda
A new home for the elders is being constructed in Watareka,Meegoda
with the blessings of the Sri Sathya Sai Baba which will accommodate 20
male and 20 female elders. This home will be completely free of charge
and deserving elders of any religion or ethnicity will be admitted
without any discrimination, according to a Sri Sathya Sai International
Organisation media release.
The need for elders homes in Sri Lanka is significant with 23% of Sri
Lankan elderly living below the poverty line.
A large majority of elders depend on children and relatives for their
living and the need is ever escalating with the elderly population
expected to reach a staggering 22% in 2030 from 10% in the year 2000.
Sri Sathya Sai Home for Elders will be located on a scenic plot of
land 32 kilometres south of Colombo at Watereke in Meegoda. The
construction work commencing in May and the Home will be ready for
occupation by May 2016. It is located 500 metres off the main road on a
picturesque setting reflecting the serenity and peacefulness that is
necessary for a home of this nature. Bordering a large stretch of paddy
fields on one side and a pond on the other. The Home will offer the
tranquillity and stillness the elders would cherish to spend the evening
of their life in reflection and thought.
The green vegetation and 'rambutan' trees provide a captivating
setting.
The Home will include two spacious dormitories for the male and
female elders, dining hall, a library, reading and recreation space and
a visitors lobby,
