Prime Minister and United National Party (UNP)
Leader, Ranil Wickremesinghe, declared that a UNP led coalition will
contest the August elections under the Elephant symbol and invited
political leaders, who backed good governance to join the coalition in
the next few days. He was addressing the UNP Special Convention at
Campbell Park, Colombo.

UPFA stalwarts in new Front
UPFA stalwart, Land Minister M.K.A.D.S. Gunawardena
yesterday confirmed the formation of a broad political front with the
UNP, named the United Front for Good Governance, to rally forces against
those determined to reverse what he called the January 8 silent
revolution. The new political front which is still to be formed will use
the UNP’s Elephant symbol until it is registered as a political party.

MR’s re-entry shows SLFP’s bankruptcy - Sujeewa
The re-entry of Mahinda Rajapaksa by arm-twisting
his party leadership reflects the party’s political bankruptcy, Deputy
Minister of Justice, Sujeewa Senasinghe said. Senasinghe, a long-term
UNP campaigner against corruption and a promoter of political reforms,
said the SLFP of today rides on personalities than policies.

Manusha Nanayakkara was a television journalist and
media personality before he entered active politics. First elected as a
member of the Southern Provincial Council in 2004, the 37- year- old
politician contested the General Election on the UNP ticket from Galle
in 2010 but later crossed over to the former UPFA Government, along with
many others.
