How the SLFP split
Soon after President Maithripala Sirisena assumed
duties as the SLFP Chairman, his close associates, including former
President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, called on him to
introduce drastic reforms to ‘clean up’ the party. For obscure
reasons, such calls fell on deaf ears and no tangible action was
taken to bring about meaningful party reforms.
