Cargills opens entertainment mall in Jaffna

President Maithripala Sirisena opened the first luxury family entertainment mall in the North, Cargills Square Mall and Cargills Bank in Jaffna last week. This brings the total investments of Cargills in the North to Rs. 1.3 billion.

The commercial complex of four floors with a floor area of 74,000 sq ft comprises retail and shopping space, the Cargills Bank, a food court including the only international restaurant KFC, a cineplex with three cinema screens including the 3-D cinema experience and a basement car park.

Cargills has also set up collection centres in Jaffna and Kilinochchi to collect agricultural produce from farmers in the area and have so far brought over 2,000 dairy and vegetable farmers into the network across the North.


NDB branch in Tissamaharama

NDB opened its latest branch in Tissamaharama to further strengthen its financial services to the residents in the Southern Province. With this opening, the NDB branch network has now grown to ninety three.

NDB will offer a gamut of retail banking products including current/savings accounts, fixed deposits, housing loans, pawning services, vehicle leasing and insurance services to the residents of Tissamaharama to help them grow while enjoying easy access and convenience of banking with automated facilities such as Visa debit cards, internet banking and Western Union money transfer services.

NDB remains dedicated to bringing its customers one step closer to accomplishing their life-long ambitions and uplifting their standards of living through the range of services that is accessible through its growing branch network.


DHL opens innovation centre

Logistics provider, DHL recently launched its Asia Pacific Innovation Centre (APIC) in Singapore, to offer a visionary view of the logistics world, and develop innovative solutions to meet evolving supply chain needs.

The multi-million dollar facility is DHL’s first innovation centre outside Germany, and the first dedicated centre for innovative logistics services in the Asia Pacific region.

The APIC showcases futuristic technologies that will transform logistics operations within the region.

These include augmented reality ‘smart glasses’ for warehouse assembly-lines and product picking; drones for delivery of time-critical goods such as medicines; Maintenance on Demand (MoDe) vehicles that use machine-to-machine (M2M) sensors to boost vehicle uptime by 30%; and driverless shuttles for faster, more efficient transportation.

Besides showcasing the latest in logistics trends and innovative solutions, APIC serves as a regional platform for collaborative innovation between DHL, customers, industry partners, and independent experts.


Russel's awards ceremony

Russel's Group of companies held its 27th Awards Ceremony at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce auditorium recently. The chief guest was Administration and Finance Manager, Codegen International (Pvt) Ltd, Surendra Perera. Over 25 awards were presented. Here M. Wimalawathi de Silva receives the Employee of the Year 2015 award.
