When I grow up

Hope, wish, fantasy….

Call it what you may, but everyone dreams of being someone or doing something different when they grow up. Some dream of being astronauts, rocket scientists, space explorer… Some dream of being clowns, comedians and running away to a circus. Still others want to be lawyers, doctors, cricketers or superstars.

The sky, as they say, is the limit to your dreams… But what’s the fun if you keep it all to yourself? So why not put pen to paper, or finger to keyboard, and share with us what you dream of being when you grow up? You can mail your dreams, along with your photograph to [email protected] or send it by snail mail to ‘Junior Observer’, No. 35, D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha, Colombo 10.

I want to be an engineer

An ambition is a person's target. To achieve an ambition one must try hard and be passionate about it. I am Khalid M. Zihar studying in Grade seven at Hejaaz International School in Mt.Lavinia. I hope to be a civil engineer when I grow up. To be an engineer, I must excel in Maths and Physics. I want to serve the society. An engineer is respected in the society due to his hard work and education. I will study hard and achieve my dream.

I want to be rich and famous

My name is Pasan Hettiarachchi. I am studying in Grade five at Kingswood College, Kandy. I want to study well and earn a lot of money. I want to be a rich and famous person some day. My dream is to conquer the whole world and help the poor and the suffering. I want to change the world and make it a better place for all people to live. I do not like to see people suffer and being ill treated. I will grow up, be rich and achieve my dream.

My ambition is to be a teacher

I am Samaa Shazuli studying in Grade 10 at Ilma International Girls' School. My ambition is to be a teacher and serve my country. I can teach the students well and make them good citizens. I will be proud to produce doctors, engineers and lawyers in my country. As a teacher my knowledge will also increase. Despite the fact that I will have heaps of papers to correct and spend most of my time on it. I am eager to achieve my dream of being a teacher.

I want to be an artist of kindness

I am Lohansi Paranahewa. I am studying in Grade Eight at Musaeus College in Colombo.

Talents are many,
Pretty and pleasure.
Some are money,
Some are leisure.
Freedom and colours,
Joined together.

Expression and feelings,
Like writing a letter.
With open eyes,
The world is seen.

Free hand fingers,
Hold the key.
Curves and lines,
End with brightness.

My wish shines,
As an artist of kindness.
