Trinity bury Royal at Asgiriya
By SM Jiffry Abdeen, Kandy cor
Spin twins Duvindu Tillekaratne and Raveen Sayer bowled Trinity
College to a stunning innings and two runs win over Royal College in
their inter school cricket match at the Asgiriya stadium in Kandy
yesterday.
Sayer took his season's tally to 90 wickets.
In reply to Royal's first innings total of 199, Trinity openers
Nushan Weerasinghe (112 with 14 fours and four sixes) and Sanogeeth
Shanmuganathan (73 with 10 fours) put on 190 runs for the first wicket.
Dilan Jayalath then cracked 84 off just 53 balls with 12 fours and
three sixes.
With a lead of 203 runs Trinity declared at 403 for 8.
Royal at one stage appeared to be cruising along to save the match,
but the introduction of the spinners backed up by some splendid close-in
fielding brought Trinity back into the contest.
Royal crashed all out for 202.
It also marked Trinity's 10th outright win of the season.
