JO to obey court order

Matara District MP Dallas Alahapperuma said they will comply with the court order preventing them from entering Shalika Grounds today, as part of their May Day rally.

An interim order was issued by the Colombo Additional Magistrate on April 29, preventing members of the Joint Opposition from entering Shalika Grounds for 14 days. The court order was issued in response to a complaint filed by the police over concerns that it would create a tense situation.

“There is no problem in complying with the court order, but we would like to make it clear to our supporters that the meeting has not been cancelled,” MP Alahapperuma said.

Many are attempting to sabotage the Joint Opposition rally but it will begin outside Shalika Grounds and the meeting will be held at the Lalith Athulathmudali grounds as planned, he added.
