Galle rally, ‘must’ for SLFPers
by Kishani Samaraweera
The SLFP has written to all members urging them to attend the May Day
rally in Galle today. However, the letter did not spell out the
consequences if they failed to attend it. This follows President
Maithripala Sirisena’s recent announcement of drastic reforms in the
SLFP after May 1.
A senior spokesman for the party said stern action will be taken
against those who breach party discipline.“The party will initiate
comprehensive reforms to strengthen its grassroot level branches before
the Local Government elections next year” he said. President Sirisena
told the media that the SLFP Central Committee would be the only
decision-making body on discipline and other reforms.
“I will not get involved. It is up to the Central Committee to make
decisions with regard to such matters. I will not stand in the way of
its decisions,” the President said. |
