When former President Mahinda Rajapaksa left for Uganda on Tuesday morning, little did he know that he was flying into a major controversy. Although the former President’s second son, Yoshitha, was not permitted by court to accompany his father, several close allies of the former first family were handpicked for the visit. It was more like a picnic for the associates of Rajapaksa who toiled and moiled to facilitate his ‘comeback’, over the past 16 months.

So our ex-Prez has gone to Uganda to be present when a supposed to be dictator guilty of corruption is sworn in for his fourth term in office. Yoweri Kaguta Musevni, 71, has been continuously in office from 1986 for 26 years and for sure getting more and more autocratic.

The Government has decided to mark May 18 as a Day of Remembrance of fallen heroes. In the past it was a massive military show of strength. The day marks the end of the three-decade long armed conflict in Sri Lanka.
