Met Dept issues bad weather warning

The Meteorology Department issued a bad weather warning yesterday that the atmospheric disturbance in the South East of Sri Lanka is likely to intensify and develop into a depression and move closer to Sri Lanka, affecting the weather in the country and the surrounding sea areas.

As a result, heavy rains are likely in the Southern and Eastern areas in the country and the public have been advised to be alert.The rains could rise to 100mm, accompanied by heavy winds and lightning.

The Naval and fishing communities have been advised to be vigilant on the possible roughness in the sea and sudden increase in wind speed, surrounding the sea areas off Sri Lanka, especially in the South East.
