NWSDB to come under PUC purview
By Rukshana Rizwie
The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) and the Ministry
of City Planning and Water Supply are engineering legislation to bring
the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) under the purview
of the PUCSL, which will function as the regulator.
Director General of PUCSL, Damitha Kumarasinghe confirmed that they
were preparing legislation to ensure that all institutions in the
water-management sector would be regulated by the PUCSL.
"Engineering this legislation will take some time, it may take up to
six months, but after this, the NWSDB will be regulated by the
Commission," he said.
The PUCSL also regulates the power and energy sector in Sri Lanka. It
provides licenses to power houses and could question and revoke them if
they are in violation of the license provided.
The CEB which has been at logger heads with the PUCSL has been asked
to resubmit the Long Term Generation Plan based on the recommendations
made by PUCSL. |
