Shoe factory catches fire

A fire that broke out at the Walk Lanka shoe factory in Ranmathugala, Kadawatha yesterday caused severe damage to the factory's store room, Crimes OIC and Acting OIC Kadawatha Gamunu Gunarathne said.

The fire that broke out at 12.30 pm, lasted till 2.30 pm. However, according to police, no casualties have been reported from the incident.

Sparks from a nearby welding site is said to be the cause of the fire, police said. Colombo Municipal Council officials said three fire engines were sent to the site to douse the flames.
