Trinity triumphs 32/23 over hometown rivals
By Hafiz Marikar
Trinity College beat their home town rugby rivals St. Anthony's
College in their inter-school division I "Cup" competition championship
encounter by 32 points (1 goal, 5 tries) to 23 (2 goals, 2 penalties and
a drop goal).at Pallkelle yesterday. At half time the winners led 15 (3
tries) to 6 (1 penalty and a drop goal).
The Trinitians under the leadership of Rahul Karunatilake made a
great impact in this game, though they lost the two second round games.
Yesterday they were impressive to knock the day lights out of the
Antonians who played well in patches under the leadership of Pasindu
Dulshan. The Trinitians looked a completely different outfit from the
one we saw against Isipathana last week in Colombo. They had transformed
into one fighting unit and were fast during the entire duration of the
game. They proved their superior in whatever they did and gave a superb
three-quarter display.
The Trinity forwards too played well, their tackling was terrific
which brought the Antonians to a grinding halt.
The game began with exchanges even and Antonians looking very
dangerous, but as the match progressed the Trinitians settled down to
play some judicious rugby and exploiting the Antonian mistakes. The
spectators were caught in a tense atmosphere for the major portion of
the game, as Trinity attacked and the Antonians were forced to defend.
The Scorers for Trinity were Shalindra Alahakoon (3 tries), Anuka
Boiyagoda, Sansushka Abeywickrema and Diluksha Dange one each. Leshan
Wijesuriya goalled one try. For the losers S Maduwantha scored 18 points
through a try, two conversions, two penalties and a drop goal. The other
try came from K. Amarakoon.

Kingswood vs St. Joseph's today
Kingswood College, who pocketed their first win of the season in
their first outing, will certainly try to make a big improvement in
today's game against St. Josephs College at Bogambara Stadium. Kick-off
is at 4.15 pm.
Kingswood looks more confident. They will be determined to make
amends for their failures in the first round.
The Josephains too are expected to play their best side, and prove
themselves as a fighting outfit Above all the Joes strong set of
forwards will need to put up another tremendous performance if they are
to rattle the Kingswoodians.
It is in this department that the Josephian's have a good chance of
pulling off a win. |
