Thomians crush Science 31/0

S.Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia crushed their town mates Science College by 31 points to nil in their key Singer ‘A’ division league inter-school rugby match played at the Air Force grounds, Ratmalana yesterday.

The mighty Thomians maintained their unbeaten record to register their eighth win in-a-row this season. They ran down as many as four tries - two in each half. Center three quarter Ashwantha Herath, who had an excellent game against St. Peter’s last week, maintained his superb form, making no mistake with all four conversions. He also put over the solitary penalty of the match. S.Thomas’ went all out from the kick-off and hardly allowed the Science team to pose a challenge, although three of their players were given marching orders in the first half. The winners collected their points from four goals and a penalty. Wing three-quarter Naveen Henakankanamge was in blistering form, scoring

two tries, one in each half. Flanker Joshua Delile scored the other Thomian try in the first half. Fly half Bhumindra Dissanayake joined the try feast in the second half.

Henakankanamge opened scoring early in the ninth minute of the game and went on the offensive since then. S. Thomas’ came to this decisive game on a high note, having won all their previous seven matches in the current inter-school league tournament. The Singer premier division league title has now turned out to be a direct battle between the two unbeaten teams - S. Thomas’ and Isipatana. Next week’s confrontation between the two heavyweights would decide the fate of the league ‘crown’.
