Army beat Renown 3-1 to take FA Cup

Sri Lanka Army SC defeated Renown SC by 3 goals to 1 to win the coveted FA Cup after a thrilling final played at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday. At half time the scores were one-all.

M N M Ishadeen scored two goals for the soldiers while M C M Rifnas scored the solitary goal for Renown. It was Renown, who drew first blood in the 15th minute, but Army equalised through Danushka Wijesiri before the end of the first half.

In the second half Army's Ishadeen scored back to back goals in the 60th and 90th minutes to put the result beyond doubt. However Ishadeen and team mate Roshan Appuhamy were shown the yellow card for rough play by referee Dilan Perera. Renown's overseas star Francis Agbeti was first shown a yellow card but he continued to argue with the referee who then showed him the red card. Army's Danushka Wijesiri was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the FA Cup tournament while soldier Kumara Sirisena received the Trophy for the Best Goalkeeper.
