Private sector support sought

Rapid development on the cards:

The Government has launched a rapid development drive to fast-track the economy and its dividends could be enjoyed by the people in another two years. The space for the private sector to contribute its worth as a major stakeholder is getting further widened.

Minister Sagala Ratnayaka presents an award to an employee. Chairman of Certis Lanka Group Sanka Wijesinghe, Group CEO/CDE Vipul Hettige and Vice President International Business Development, Certis Internationa, Lester Chua look on.

For example, CISLO, a private sector security agency helps the Singaporean police a great deal as a third party operating the CCTV Security network, Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayaka said at the 39th Anniversary Celebrations and Awards ceremony of the Certis Lanka Group held at the BMICH recently.

Sri Lanka too will have to follow a similar system, by allowing its private sector to run the security connected establishments and other services. In its competition in the global economy, the government decides on policy prescriptions for developing the economy and undertakes essential services leaving the rest with the private sector. Although the private sector security system should have been improved to reach the international standard after the war, unfortunately it did not materialise as envisaged.

It is time to boost the private sector security network alongside the Govt's develop unit device, he added. The company felicitated their employees for various achievements and contributions to the company during the past year. Over 30 recipients were identified and presented with trophies and cash rewards. Scholarships were awarded to 62 children of its employees, who performed well at the GCE O/L and GCE A/L examinations, to further academic aspirations. Certis Lanka is a joint venture with Certis International of Singapore, a wholly-owned company of Temasek Holdings, the private investment arm of the Government of Singapore. Also Certis Lanks Group has been operating as an independent entity providing Security Services in Sri Lanka for the past thirty-nine years.
