Kandy to take part in ARWCC on September 2

The 2016 Asia Rugby Western Clubs Champions(ARWCC) League Tournament will kick off on September 2 , Championship-winning clubs from the most recent respective cross-border or domestic competitions in the UAE, Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan will play against each other in order to decide the champions of West Asia.

The tournament schedule was announced last evening. Kandy Sports Club will meet Abu Dhabi Harlequins in Abu Dhabi on Sept. 6th in their first game. Kandy Led by scrum half Roshan Weerartne is in peak form and will leave to participate at the end of this month.

The winners of this competition could truly claim to be the strongest club in Western Asia.

Kandy Sports Club will play their first game on 6th against Abu Dhabi Harlequins in Abu Dhabi. Led by scrum half Roshan Weerartne Kandy is in peak form and will leave to the UAE at the end of this month . According to Ghaith Jalajel Rugby Development Consultant Asia Rugby West all arrangements have been finalised for the second Asia Rugby Western Clubs Champions League.

The tournament dates are Friday 2nd September Exiles vs. Abu Dhabi Harlequins in Dubai, Tuesday 6th September Abu Dhabi Harlequins vs. Kandy Sports Club in Abu Dhabi and on Friday 9th September Exiles vs. Kandy Sports Club in Dubai.

The tournament will end with the Asia Rugby Official Trophy Presentation and Tournament Dinner.

This tournament should go from strength to strength with the quality of teams involved and the choice of venues. The organisers have selected some good stadiums for players and fans to enjoy a tournaments of this nature for rugby to take center stage and will give the sport a chance to show the skills, passion and pride the players have towards rugby.

Last year was the first ever tournament, which brought the initiative and commitment of the member unions in Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, UAE and Qatar.

Their four top clubs took part, which the bridge between senior domestic and international representative rugby was built. The tournament provided new avenues for new players, supporters, volunteers and sponsors.

The players who will be touring are Roshan Weerarthne, Fazil Marija, Nigel Ratwatte, Shehan Pathirane Anurudda Wilwara and Gayan Weerarthne are doubtful due to injury, rest who are tipped to tour are Srinath Sooriyabandara, Danushka Dayan, Richard Dharmapala, Vishwamithra Jayasinghe, Soyuru Anthony, Kishore Jehan, Dimithri Wijethunga, Piyumal Manchanayake, Damith Dissanayake Uchitha Jayasooriya, Yakoob Ali, Gayan Ratnayake, Dinuka Perera, Sashika Jayawardena, Chanaka Bandara, Asitha Ratnayake, Chathu Ratnayake Heshan Kalhar, Buwaneka Udangamuwa, Srinath Sooriyabandara, Arshad Jamaldeen, Pradeep Liyanage, Richard Dharmapala, Oshan Perera, Lavanga Perera, Vishwamitra Jayasinghe, Dharshana Ettipola, Tharindu Chanaka, Danush Daya, Thilina Wijesinghe. New comers who are expected to tour are Danushka Ranjan , Kanchana Ramanayake and Jason Dissanayake. (Manager Kapila Silva)
