Official talks with New Zealand PM Key:
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe during discussions with his New
Zealand counterpart John Kay, implied that the government is ready to
discuss the counter- terrorism law in place of the Prevention of
Terrorism Act (PTA). He made these statements in discussions with the
New Zealand Prime Minister in respect of repealing the PTA.

The talk of the town now is the emergence of a new
political party by the SLFP MPs in the Joint Opposition (JO) who are
backing former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Amid media speculation that
the new party will be formed on October 8, JO front liners say there is
no truth in it and that what has been planned for October 8 at Ratnapura
is a meeting to protest against the removal,
The protest march, Ezhuga Thamizh (Arise Tamils)
organised by the Northern Province Chief Minister the previous Saturday
has stirred up a hornet’s nest. Even after a week, the widespread
condemnation of his actions by the moderates across the divide is yet to
cease. All main political parties took turns to express displeasure and
outrage at his actions for rousing Northern Tamils and inciting communal
