St. Joseph's and Prince of Wales giant killers

Josephian medium-paceman Christopher Fleming with a match haul of 10 for 91 helped his school trounce Royal by an innings and 12 runs in their schools cricket match concluded yesterday five minutes before the tea break. The Joes made 293 in their first innings, while Royal who were bundled out for 156 in reply and sent in for the fellow-on- fell for a mere 125 runs.

Naveen Dias (39) and Tharaka Kottehewa (32) were the only two Royalists who made some sort of impression in their first innings adding 69-runs for the fifth wicket. Fleming who opened the bowling attack for the Joes finished on 6 for 44 in 17 overs.

Even in their follow-on, Royal, did not fare any better with only Naveen Dias again top scoring with 32 and Fleming ending with 4 for 47 in 12 overs. Rajiv Vedachelvam too had four scalps with Ranesh Perera chipping in with two.

Thomians lose to Cambrians after 20 years

S. Thomas' were dealt with yet another big blew in their preparation for the big battle ahead with Royal next month. After losing to Isipatana last week, the Thomians were beaten yesterday by Prince of Wales by 10 wickets and the venue again was Mount Lavinia. The Cambrians beat the Thomians after 20 years.

The Thomians made 91 in their first innings, while the Cambrians declared at their overnight score of 233 for 9. The Thomians in their second turn fared much better to make 165, but left the Cambrians to knock up the required runs for victory very comfortably.

Sanjeewa Mendis did the Thomians proud with a top score of 67 in their second turn and was helped to a great extent by Charith de Silva who made 40.

S. Thomas':- 91 and 165 (Sanjeewa Mendis 67, Charith de Silva 40, Srimal Pieris 3 for 13, P. Hewage 3 for 36, Dilshan Sampath 2 for 3, Nisal Vithanage 2 for 67).

Prince of Wales:- 233 for 9 declared and 28 for no loss.
