Miftas pilots Lyceum to 6-wkt win over CIS by RANJAN ANANDAPPA Two fine performances by Sriyan Miftas and Charith Gurusinghe helped Lyceum International school to beat Colombo International School by 6 wickets in their inaugural limited overs cricket encounter played at the R. Premadasa International Stadium, Khettarama yesterday. Miftas produced an impressive allround effort taking 3 wickets for 18 runs in 7.4 overs and striking 65 off 68 balls with 12 boundaries, while left-hander Gurusinghe batted enterprisingly to hit an attractive 67. The association of Gurusinghe and Miftas virtually sealed the game in Lyceum favour adding 100 runs for the second wicket. Gurusinghe faced 87 deliveries and reached the ropes on six occasions. Earlier CIS, winning the toss and deciding to bat first, lost two quick wickets without a run on the board, but a productive third wicket stand of 172 runs between Amrith Wijesuriya (49) and Ruwantha Hewage (91) brought the score to some respectability. Besides these two batsmen CIS contrived a middle order collapse losing 7 wickets for 35 with Miftas, Dinuk Abeykoon and Diliesha Gunaratne doing most of the damage. Hewage's 91 contained six fours and two sixes. The following awards were also presented. Best Fielder - Amrith Wijesuriya (CIS), Best Bowler - Sriyan Miftas (Lyceum), Best Batsman - Ruwantha Hewage (CIS), Man-of-the- Match - Sriyan Miftas (Lyceum). |
