Caltex powers first-ever Royal-Thomian Joint Walk

The first-ever Royal-Thomian Joint Walk, which is organised to commemorate the 125th Royal-Thomian cricket encounter and its parallel anniversary celebrations, will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2004 in Colombo. The conception of the Joint Walk is aimed at displaying the solidarity between the two schools.

As the small steps for Royalists and Thomians will make giant strides for harmony and brotherhood united towards a great cause, the 125th anniversary celebrations of Royal College, Colombo and S. Thomas' College, Mt. Lavinia, Caltex is poised to power the spirit of tradition of the two schools.

Caltex is a well-known brand that has many a close association with many sports as a committed promoter and activities related to social responsibility and environment preservation. A company with a rich history, Caltex's parent company Chevron Texaco will celebrate its 125th anniversary in operation, thus the association for Royal-Thomian Joint Walk is certainly a coincidence to their global celebrations.

The Joint Walk will commence at 3.30 p.m. from Royal College Junior Gates. Participants will leave Royal College and arrive at the Royal College Sports Complex to enjoy an evening of fun and entertainment. The walk will march on the route of Flower Road up to Green Path Junction turn on to Green Path and go up to the Colpetty Junction and then turn left and go along Galle Road up to the Bambalapitiya Junction. From there they will go up to Thummulla Junction along Bullers Road and then to Reid Avenue and will conclude at the Sports Complex premises at Stanley Wijesundara Mawatha. A mini carnival will also be held at the Sports Complex premises immediately after the walk and is likely to go on till mid night.

As the Joint Organising Committee of both schools mentioned, Old Royalists, Old Thomians, present students of all age groups, parents, teachers, friends and well-wishers are expected to participate in great numbers for this event.

Also they said many leading companies are seeking to sponsor this grand event.

There are further sponsoring opportunities for companies, who could provide food and beverage, ice cream, milk and others, and this is not to be missed by any organisation who needs to promote their brands.

The Joint Committee proudly mentioned that the Royal-Thomian cricket match continued uninterrupted for last 124 years, even uninterrupted during the two world wars, thereby gaining recognition of the Guiness Book of Records.
