N-E monsoon Regatta Jan. 31 by LESLIE FERNANDO The North-East Monsoon Regatta, the first rowing meet for the year 2004 conducted by the Colombo rowing Club with the blessings from the Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka, will be held on Saturday, January 31 commencing at 2 pm at CRC, on the Beira Lake. Diluk Aluwihare, Captain of Boats of Colombo Rowing Club said good rowing could be expected from the oarsmen and oarswomen. Altogether six events will be worked off-Centenary Oar (open event coxed four 1000 metres-Empacher four/New Sunny fours boat will be used. RCYC (Junior level coxed pair 1000 metres-boat viking pairs. Wardrop Sculls (open sculling event 1000 metres (senior scullors not allowed) participant institutional boats. Family Pairs (family event) beat viking pairs. Ladies Junior Fours (junior level coxed four 1000 metres (winners of Cyraine cup and ladies Plate are not allowed to participate in this event) beat Klinker fours/sunny fours. Ladies Junior Pair (junior level coxed pair 1000 metres (winners of Cyraine Cup and Ladies Plate are not allowed to participate in this event) boat viking pairs. Last year, Sri Lanka Navy oarsmen won the Pairs event for men and carried away the Royal Colombo Yacht Club' RCYC (trophy, men's fours and with it the Centenary Oars trophy and the men's sculls and the Wardrop Trophy). The Coxless pairs event (Stubbs Quaich Trophy) went to Colombo Rowing Club 'A'. Musaeus College won the ladies pairs. Ladies College 'A' took the Ladies Junior Fours. The Commander of Royal Colombo Yacht Club Hans Svensen will be the chief guest on this occasion. |
