Climb the ladder of success Good news for dance enthusiasts in Sri Lanka! The Ballroom Dancers Federation International - Sri Lanka, a newly formed organisation will revive the Medal Examinations in collaboration with the International Dance Teachers' Association UK (IDTA). At a media briefing on Tuesday June 8, the Chairman of the BDFI, Nemantha Abeysinghe revealed that Medal Examinations and Workshops will be held commencing July 31, August 1 in Colombo. In Kandy the exams will be held on August 2. Yvonne Saunders, Senior Dance Examiner and Jacqueline Roberts, the President of the IDTA will be in Sri Lanka to hold the Medal Examinations and Workshops in Ballroom, Latin, Salsa, Line Dancing and Social Dancing. The media sponsors for the events will be Rupavahini and Sun FM, while Qatar Airways will fly down the Examiner and President of IDTA, and they will be hosted by Galle Face Hotel in Colombo and the Swiss Residence Hotel in Kandy. Dance enthusiasts who hitherto were unable to become professional dancing teachers could now partake in the examinations for Bronze, Silver and Gold grades for the amateurs while the Professional segment will comprise Student Teachers, Associates, Licentiate and Fellowship. Those of you who enjoy dancing the Viennese Waltz and Rock 'n Roll will have the opportunity to specialise in these dances. What's more a dancer and a young teacher who tops the examination will win a month's scholarship to further their training at the leading Dance Studio - Dance Options, Cheam in UK. So here's your opportunity, if you've always been a dance freak, to become professional which will not only put your artistry on a higher plane, but give you the opportunity to impart your knowledge to other young enthusiasts. The BDFI Sri Lanka was transformed into a reality by eight dedicated dance enthusiasts whose vision was to bring dancing talent to a common platform, and to create a launching pad for our dancers to reach greater heights. Being aware of the importance of professionalism will foster harmony and goodwill amongst the dance fraternity. The organisation is keen that our dance enthusiasts' technique is improved so that more of our dancers could participate at International Competitions and also at World Congress Sessions which is held biennially. Make sure you participate at the Medal Exams in Colombo on July 31, and the Workshop on August 1. In Kandy the Medal Examinations will be held on August 2 followed by a Sundown Bash in the evening. In Colombo on August 1 the BDFI will stage the Golden Bash at the Galle Face Hotel to felicitate the most senior dance teacher Owen de Abrew who celebrates his 50th year as a Dance Teacher. |
