New and rock oriented

New on the scene and determined to make a musical impact in Colombo, is the four piece outfit Purple Rings, who had a successful outing yesterday, (Saturday June 19) at the Colombo Swimming Club.

With a repertoire that is based on the rock that is lapped up by today's young groovers Purple Rings comprises Lakmal Fernando lead guitar and vocals - who was as he tells us, with Bathiya and Santhush at the outset of their career. Fabion Bonnie who one time was a member of Super Pink 'N Purple handles all the lead vocals, while the keyboardist is Chrisantha Fernando who had a stint with Tribe.

Providing the bass line to this new group is Chamara. Purple Rings entertain music lovers weekly, they tell us, at Club Palm Bay - Marawila, Bentota Beach Hotel, Villa Ocean View and Eaden Hotel while in Colombo they perform at the 'After Dark.' The band's repertoire besides rock and classic rock includes today's pop as well.
