David Tay in Colombo : Colour 'em beautiful
David is renowned for his modern Eastern design concepts, which are characterised by inventive use of space, clever lighting and especially by the strong use of colours. His personal style is found in all of his work, whether it is the unique interior design of CityBank on Singapore's Orchard Road, exhibitions for Singapore's National museum or the retail concepts in context of interior design for the Sogo departmental stores in Indonesia. When he rearranged the apartment of a couple living in Singapore's Parkeast Condominium, a story featured by Beautiful Homes, he proved that without spending much money, a dramatic change can be brought to an apartment, simply by the use of colour. As the only interior designer consulted by ICI Paints Singapore, David Tay not only endorses its paints, but also launched its colours for 2003. CIC Paints (Pvt) Limited of Sri Lanka is a member of the international ICI Paints World Group and has strong, well-established brands such as 'Dulux' and 'Glidden'. CIC Paints is bringing David Tay to Colombo for the Dulux Colour Workshops in September. These two workshops cover the most latest and ground breaking concepts in interior design with a special focus on colour. The first one will take place on September 17 and is open to homeowners and all those who enjoy colourful living. A special workshop for children and parents on September 18 will work on children's expressions and their response to colour. David is the principal and founder of the design consultancy Y2:SPACE which enjoys international reputation founded on a broad selection clientele, ranging from private clients to leading names in industrial design and multinational corporations. Among them is B&B Italia, a recognised leader in the area of modern interior decoration, which commissioned David to design a uniquely eastern chair. He named it 'i' Chair, taken from his middle name. Using no rivets and having only two joints, it is a sight of poetic elegance, reminding the spectator of a Chinese scroll. In 1990, David was invited to publish his biographical record in 'Baron's Who's Who in Interior Design'. Comprising Luminaries like I. M. Peh and Kenzo Tange, inclusion in Baron's has been limited to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievements, superior leadership and exceptional service in the field of Interior Design. |
