IBSL to introduce distant learning to overseas students by Hiran H.Senewiratne Sri Lanka's premier banking professional training centre the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka (IBSL) is in the process of introducing on-line distance learning programs outside Sri Lanka. "At present we are preparing our modules to suit students to follow on-line lessons in a more beneficial way", IBSL Secretary General/CEO H.R.M. Ellepola said. He said that initially the institute would popularise this concept for Sri Lankan students, especially to attract rural students to pursue banking studies and thereafter those modules would be used for on-line programs with latest up dates. Once the on-line programs are started, the institute will promote its programs in countries such as Maldives,Bangladesh, Nepal and Middle-East, and course programs will also be designed in a more customised manner for foreign students. IBSL has joined with the prestigious Chartered Institute of Bankers London (CIBL).CIBL is now in the process of negotiating with British educational authorities to recognise IBSL's diploma in Financial services to the degree level, Ellepola said. Ellepola said that their banking course, which comprises, certificate, advance certificate and diploma are globally recognised since certificates are jointly signed by CIBL and IBSL. The institute is also subjected to annual quality audit standards by CIBL. He also said that all banking exams, question papers, model answers and answer scripts are modulated by the CIBL.The institute also conducts banking courses in Sinhala and Tamil media, which are certified by the CIBL. IBSL is a government statutory body managed by a board of directors and is the premier banking professional body in the country. IBSL awards professional qualification on banking and finance, holds training programs and holds examinations and awards certificates for other fields as well. |
