Tips to improve your Vocabulary
We use words all day and everyday, when we talk and when we write. Learning vocabulary is not easy but if you concentrate and follow the rules, you can always achieve success. If you want to improve your English vocabulary, you must read a lot. However, when you are reading you should take time to check out the new words you come across in the book, magazine, newspaper or website. Don't skip any difficult words that you come across. The moment you come across a word you don't understand or cannot pronounce correctly, ask an elder or a friend to help you. If there is no one around to explain the word to you or help with the pronunciation, write the new word down on a paper and check it out later. The dictionary will be the ideal place to get your answers. Even when you read the Junior Observer pages, you are bound to come across many words you may not be familiar with. Make an attempt to learn what these new words mean and also do exercises to learn how you can use these new words in your writing and speech. When you are having a conversation with someone and he or she uses a word you don't understand or recognise, don't hesitate to ask that person to explain it to you. If you are too shy to reveal your lack of knowledge, at least make a mental note of it and look it up in the dictionary, when you get an opportunity to do so.
