Wimal Weerawansa's attack on President : Deputy Ministers, MPs express dismay Convener of the Association of Deputy Ministers and Members of Parliament, Ports and Civil Aviation Deputy Minister Dilan Perera in a statement issued Friday expressed concern and dismay over a speech reportedly made by the Propaganda Secretary of the JVP Wimal Weerawansa, MP defaming the President. Weerawansa has so far not contradicted this statement repeatedly broadcast over private electronic media and hence they have to accept the reports as authentic, he said. The statement further said: "Pro-UNF media are using the statement of Wimal Weerawansa to create dissension within the UPFA. The President underwent tremendous physical and mental strain due to unceasing attacks on her during the UNF regime. In such a context we are shocked at Weerawansa's defamatory remarks against the President, especially those about her facial expressions and express our revulsion at them. "Such statements benefit only the enemy. Yet our people are firmly determined not to allow anyone to weaken the UPFA. Therefore, we appeal to the JVP and all its sympathisers to refrain from acting in a manner that could bring joy to our enemies and dedicate themselves to fulfill people's aspirations by strengthening the unity of the Alliance. "Whatever the theoretical and policy differences with the JVP, we believe that we should strengthen and carry forward the alliance with it". |
